Edit 2: Restarted the internet recovery and it made it through but it hangs up after starting to install OS X Lion and says 'can't download the additional components needed to install Mac OS X. The app's ressources can be used to create a new installer thumb drive with the well known command. I even re-installed macOS twice and the issue now continues My first macOS reinstall I used Time Machine to recover apps and my files - that didnt work. The installer package installs the 'Install OS X El Capitan.app' in the Applications folder. Simply download a new OS X El Capitan install.dmg (with a valid cert chain this time), open the dmg and open the InstallOS.pkg. Select ‘Reinstall macOS,’ at which point Internet Recovery will download and install a fresh copy of macOS. This may take a while.” Eventually, this will be replaced by a progress bar and, finally, the standard macOS Utilities window. Once your Mac boots, you should see a spinning globe and the message “Starting Internet Recovery. Aside from a bootcamp accident (which was my fault, not the softwares) where I restored from Time Machine, Ive never reinstalled the OS. If your Mac is really old - as in so old it's running Mac OS X Snow Leopard or older - it will not have a Recovery partition, the only way to reinstall the OS is to use the discs that shipped with. Ive been on OS X for about 3 years now (early 2011 Macbook Pro upgraded to 8 gigs) and Ive upgraded to the latest OS each time its come out.
